About
I read my first Star Trek novel in 1971. It was Spock Must Die! by James Blish. I was already familiar with Star Trek. WKBN-TV 27 in my hometown of Youngstown, Ohio was playing the show in syndication. I would get home from school and watch it before dinner. I was hooked with the first episode I watched!
Not long after that I discovered the Blish novelizations and began reading them. So when Spock Must Die! appeared at the library, I had to read it. I still remember the excitement I had reading the first few pages. Learning about the concept of tachyons, and that they traveled faster than light blew me away. I couldn’t get enough. I read it over a weekend and realized then, I wanted to read more.
Throughout the 1970s, my Mom would bring home the other Star Trek novels from Bantam Books as they appeared on the library shelves. I cherished each one. When the novelization of the Motion Picture came out, I was in high school. I remember reading it in study hall, before i had seen the movie, and was thrilled by this new adventure for my favorite crew.
When I attended college, my love for Star Trek books went with me. Like any college student, I was strapped for cash. But after graduation, I read every book that came out for the next decade and a half. As my beloved Trek franchise finally got the notoriety that I and countless other fans thought it deserved, there were more than enough books to keep me busy.
But with all these novels came some confusion. With so many stories taking place along different points of the chronological time frame, questions about when a certain novel took place, or whether novels should be read in a specific order popped up over the years.
So after years of reading and watching, I wanted to create a site that explained these stories and provided some context for them. Hopefully, fans of the novels will be able to find novels based on their interest, time frame, series or author. determined which were good, and which were not.
